There’s more than enough to do during the holiday season, from Christmas parties to other events. On the one hand, that’s great, but we might end up forgetting to take care of ourselves. At the same time—our health isn’t something we can just forget about!
To stay healthy, we need to eat mindfully and exercise and stay active in moderation—and the holiday season shouldn’t be an exception. After all, we want to feel good in our own bodies even during Christmas.
So how can we make sure we continue to take good care of ourselves even during the holiday season? Here are a few tips:
Set aside a specific time for exercise in your daily schedule
If you have a specific time set aside for exercise each day, it’s easier to stick to it. The best time depends on your daily schedule and commitments. We recommend starting your day with exercise if possible—it gives you a boost of energy for the rest of the day. If you just can’t find time to exercise in the morning, maybe your lunch break or right after work is a good time?
Set clear and achievable goals for yourself
If you’re not used to exercising regularly, start with small steps—it’s probably not a good idea to train for an Ironman or a marathon right away. If you start with two or three workouts a week or set a goal of 15 minutes of active movement per day, that’s definitely a much more sustainable way to get started. Your appetite usually grows as you eat, but developing a good habit starts with taking that first step!
Work out with family members or friends
It can sometimes be hard to motivate yourself to find time for daily exercise, but a great workout partner or group can help keep your motivation up. If you agree on a goal together and hold each other accountable, you’re much less likely to skip a workout.
Work out
where it’s most convenient for you If you don’t feel like forcing yourself to go running outside in the cold and a gym doesn’t appeal to you, you can exercise at home. Home workouts can be very effective, and at home you can comfortably experiment with different trainers and workout styles. You’ll also save time that would otherwise be spent commuting.
Spend as much time as possible in the fresh air and nature
. If you have the chance to spend time outdoors, go out in appropriate clothing and enjoy the fresh air. Skiing, sledding, ice skating, and walking in the fresh air will refresh your mind and invigorate your body!
If you add to your daily exercise goal, for example, a goal to drink the necessary amount of water every day (an average of 2 liters would be a good goal, for example) and include something fresh on every plate, you’ll have taken several steps toward a healthier lifestyle during the holiday season—and why not beyond?
The hardest part about good habits is getting started—once they become part of your daily life and routine, the hard work is mostly done.
On the FitQ platform, you’ll find several at-home workouts that help you stay active every day—and an effective workout can really be as short as 15 minutes. Try, for example:
