Photograph your food and let AI estimate the calories
Published 8 September 2026
Hello!
It’s Tuesday again and time to see what we’ve completed on the product over the past week. This time, the main news is in the FunTastyQ Fit app: you can now simply take a photo of your food, and the app will estimate the calories and macros for you. Katrena’s new morning exercise videos, Stebby account linking, and a host of fixes have also been released. Everything described below is already live.
Take a photo of your food — the app estimates calories and macros
Some people want to know, down to the last gram and calorie, what they’ve eaten, while others hate doing that. An accurate log is useful because it ensures that you get the result you want. But if you have less time and perseverance and would still like to take at least small steps toward the ideal, every gram of carbohydrates does not have to be exactly right. The main thing is to stay in control and keep moving in the right direction.
There is now a new option in the FunTastyQ Fit app: tap the plus sign and select “Photograph food” (you’ll also find the same camera button next to the food search), take a photo of your plate or choose one from your gallery, and an estimate will appear within a few seconds. The app identifies individual components on the plate — such as a cutlet, potatoes, sauce, and salad — and shows the quantity, calories, protein, carbohydrates, and fat for each row.
The result is an approximate estimate, not an absolute truth. Each row has a confidence indicator, and a range is provided for the calories on the entire plate. Before saving, you can adjust the quantities yourself, replace the identified food with a more accurate match from our database, or add a missing ingredient. If there is no exact match in the catalog, the identified food can be saved as your own private food with one tap. A small “AI” label remains on rows added from an AI estimate in the diary, so you can later see what was estimated and what was weighed.
How does the photo-based estimate work?
The photo is sent to Anthropic’s Sonnet 5 AI model for analysis. To prevent misuse of the service, we have a limit of 100 photo analyses per month and up to 10 photos per day for each FunTastyQ Fit subscriber. The feature is available in version 1.66.00 on both iOS and Android — update the app in the store if it has not updated automatically yet.
Morning exercise with Katrena — seven new videos
Week seven of the Weekly VäljaQtse is morning week: five morning workouts between 5 a.m. and noon, with eight mornings to complete them by noon on Monday, 14.09. Especially for this, we created seven new morning exercise videos of about ten minutes each with Katrena Tenno, one for each morning. You don’t have to follow these particular videos to participate, but they are the easiest way: one video exceeds the required viewing time several times over.
One clarification regarding Monday’s email: a workout added manually to the FunTastyQ Fit diary counts as a morning workout if you log it before noon on the same day. The app saves the date, not the time, so the moment it is entered is what counts — log the workout immediately after completing it, not in the evening.

Link your Stebby account and get an extra entry in the prize draw
If your employer supports sports through Stebby, you can now link your Stebby account to your FitQ account — without making a purchase. Linking gives you one extra entry in the VäljaQtse grand prize draw (a €1000 Estravel gift card, drawn on 4 October). This is an extra entry in addition to the weekly wins, not instead of them: every completed week gives you an entry as before. You’ll find the linking button on the VäljaQtse page.
Video player: large play button and video of the day without logging in
FitQ videos now have a large green play button in the middle, so starting them is just one tap away on both your phone and computer. From now on, the free video of the day will also open without logging in — feel free to send the link to a friend who does not yet have a FitQ account.
In the mobile apps (1.66.00)
Gymwolf workouts appear in the diary. Workouts completed in Gymwolf that were previously missing from the FunTastyQ Fit workout diary are now visible under their own type.
A planned meal looks different from an eaten one. A meal plan row that you have not yet eaten appears as a flat card with a “Planned” label in the iOS daily view — so you won’t mistake a recommendation for food you’ve eaten.
Food added to the plan is included in the totals. If you added something to a planned meal yourself, it was previously excluded from the day’s calories. It no longer is.
Barcode search is faster, and on Android the cursor now jumps directly to the quantity field after scanning.
Facebook login on iOS works again
Remember that the Weekly VäljaQtse is still going — this week is morning week, and the eighth morning is Monday, 14.09.
Have an active week!
