Christmas is just around the corner and the festive season has become a time of traditions for everyone and every family. Some families spend Advent cooking and eating dinner together, while others enjoy hiking and sledging together in the fresh air.
For many families, Christmas food is at the heart of Christmas, but Christmas traditions don't always have to be about food. Here are some ideas for things to do with your family or friends this festive season.
A game or healthy snack in the sushi instead of an advent calendar or a candy bar.
Every December morning doesn't necessarily have to start with chocolate or candy. At other times of the year, it probably doesn't. There are a variety of healthy alternatives in the shops, and when December mornings are more varied, they're more exciting.
An apple or a carrot can also be put inside the sushi, with a small leaflet telling the child about the vitamins the fruit provides. Children can also be surprised with craft items, stickers or other small gifts that will not create the habit of only eating sweet things first thing in the morning.
Christmas flavours in your breakfast porridge
A healthy and nutritious porridge bag takes on a whole new magic when you add a little Christmas cheer. Do you like a pinch of cinnamon, cardamom or a finely crushed gingerbread and maybe some raisins? Breakfast could be nutritious and healthy, and with a little something extra, you can create a change of pace to everyday tastes.
Morning snuggle with the family
During the holidays, why not start your day with a morning exercise you can do with the whole family. Backed up with Christmas carols, a few squats, stretches and circles to get the body pumping and the mind alert. Quality time + exercise, what could be better. 🙂
Snow shovels in gear
While nature blesses us with the beautiful white snow that always gives December and winter a special glow, we also have to put in a little effort to get out the door or find the car under the snow. Next time, bring the whole family along to shovel the snow. It's a special way to be outdoors, to breathe in the fresh air, and if that snow shovelling turns into a little romp in the snow or a snowball fight, it's especially nice to have a warm cup of tea in the room afterwards with red cheeks.
White Hours Wandering Outdoors
While we certainly spend a lot more time outdoors in summer, in winter many of us tend to hide indoors for comfort. During the week, we may spend our white knuckle hours at school or work, but the weekend is the perfect opportunity to try something different.
Estonia has a variety of hiking and ski trails, sledding hills and forest huts where everyone can find something to suit themselves. A weekend away is the perfect opportunity to chat with friends or family, get a little competitive with a walk, or feel like a kid again with a snowball fight. Why not try winter fun? End the evening with a light stretching and a relaxing time out.
Christmas may be a little more stressful than usual in our lives. It tends to be a case of worrying about presents, planning visits and the Christmas table. To get a better night's sleep, it's a good idea to stretch a bit and do some gymnastics before going to bed.
On the FitQ platform you will find a variety of stretching workouts, for example you could try this yoga-based stretching workout.
