If you want to analyse, share or use your training data in another application, the best solution is to download a GPX file. GPX is a universal format that contains precise information about your running route, time and pace. There are a number of ways to download your run training data in GPX format. In this article, we'll teach you how to do this from within the Strava and Garmin apps, so you can use them to calculate your fitness test results.

What is Strava and Garmin Connect?

Strava is a popular training tracking app that allows you to record your running, cycling and other sports data. You can also compare your results with friends and other users, take part in challenges and find new routes. To join Strava, go to Strava.com or download the app from the app store on your smartphone.

Garmin Connect is a workout platform for Garmin device users that automatically collects all workouts and activity data stored by Garmin smartwatches and devices. You can join Garmin Connect from the following website connect.garmin.com or download the app from the app store on your smart device.

How to record a running session?

Record your running training with Strava or Garmin:

  • Strava: Open the Strava app on your smartphone, press "Record" and then "Start". To finish your workout, press "Stop" and save your workout.
  • Garmin: Use your Garmin smartwatch or device, select "Running" as your sport and start your workout. When you're done, stop and record the activity, which will automatically sync to Garmin Connect.

When you do our 3200 m run test, make sure your run was at least 3200 m long. That's more or less exactly 2 miles in miles. You don't need to worry about running flat out as soon as you start training. Our program will take the fastest 3200m out of your workout and record that time as the result of your test. So you can start your watch and warm up, and when you're ready, run the minimum 3200m (2 miles) as fast as you can.
