How can I achieve consistency in my training?

As the new year approaches, many are setting themselves health goals. They want to start exercising, lose weight and eat healthier. On 1 January, everyone is excited, the gyms are packed, but by the end of January the motivation is gone and the New Year's resolutions are forgotten. So how do you still achieve your training goals and consistency?

Set realistic goals

It is important to set realistic goals that are achievable. Exercising for several hours a day may seem like a good plan and seem doable at first glance, but without prior preparation, injuries are easy to occur and exercise is abandoned altogether. Therefore, it is best to start slow and steady so that you don't lose motivation. If you're starting for the first time, or if you've taken a long break from training, 2-3 times a week is a good start. Later on, you can change your goal and increase the number of sessions according to how you feel.

Start with short workouts

The reason why consistent training fails is that you want to start with long training sessions several times a week. If daily exercise has not been part of your lifestyle in the past, start with shorter sessions. Even 15 minutes a day is effective, and it's much easier to find this time in your schedule.

Find accountability partners

Often, the pursuit of goals is undertaken alone and in secret. It's hard to find motivation when you're alone, but finding an accountability partner who you can hold to account and train with will help you stay on track. With an accountability partner, you can share your worries and joys and feel supported. Shared worries are half the battle and shared joys are double the fun!

Ask a personal trainer for help

There is a huge amount of material on the internet about nutrition and exercise, and as a beginner it can be difficult to sort through all this information to find the right one for you. If you don't know where to start, it's wiser to turn to a personal trainer who can help you set specific goals according to what you want to achieve. A personal trainer motivates you, raises your awareness of exercises, technique and healthy lifestyle, and pushes you to push harder and push yourself. You also run less risk of injury because you get expert advice.

Take part in a training challenge

Challenges are motivating, especially in teams. As a beginner, it's a good idea to find a challenge that doesn't overwhelm you. Many sports clubs run challenges from time to time, and there are also online training challenges. For example, in January FitQ Training field Consistency, which are in teams, and where you only have to dedicate 15 minutes a day to training.

Consistency is the key to achieving the objectives. It all starts with simple steps, and following them will make your biggest dreams come true! Try thinking a little differently this January. Rather than setting yourself overwhelming goals and squeezing yourself mentally and physically exhausted in the first month, try to create new healthy habits. Whether it's taking a short walk every night, stretching in the morning, or swapping a whole chocolate bar for a few sweets. The important thing is that you are able to stick to your new healthy habits, so that at some point they become a part of your life that serves you and gives you a better quality of life.
