Trends in personal training in 2025: are people's training habits permanently changed?

Every day, clients ask the same questions, "How do you find the motivation to go to the gym when you can 'work out' by lying on the couch and eating pills?" or "Does AI really know your body better than you do?". These questions do not come out of nowhere - life shows that in 2025, a huge number of people will prefer to work out at home or use a hybrid model. In this story, we will take a look at the global trends in personal training, but we do not aim to describe their nature and content in detail.

How did 2023-2024 change us?

After the corona era (2020-2022), training took on a whole new meaning:

  • Online training: Zoom squats and arm curls became a common part of many people's lives. Many got used to the idea that you didn't need a gym to work out.
  • Freedom of movement: 2023-2024 brought freedom back, but many discovered that home training was more convenient and flexible.
  • Hybrid model: Many sports enthusiasts want to go clubbing and get energised by social networking one day, but the next day they want to save time by, for example, doing a virtual group workout or going for a run in the fresh air.

Those years made many people think: "Is a gym membership really a necessary expense and what benefits do I get for it?"

Three biggest trends in personal training in 2025

  1. Personalised online support: A coach is like a friend who sends you a message in the morning: 'Today is a great day for running!'. Such personalised messages are more motivating for clients than generic automated messages. Human encouragement is important, but providing it requires extra attention and time from the coach.
  2. Focus on recovery: Sleep, stress levels and recovery are now just as important as intense strength training. Apps such as Oura or Whoop help clients understand when their body really needs a rest. A good trainer can do the same with a good plan, so there's not necessarily a need to strap on gadgets.
  3. Experience of joint training: Joint training is back, but does it necessarily need a sports club? Working out together virtually or together in a park creates a much-needed sense of community, which helps motivate people and achieve goals.

How to fight Ozempicu?

Ozempic and other weight-loss drugs are rapidly gaining popularity, and many people think it's enough to get in shape. The drug may help you lose weight, but it doesn't give you the muscle tone and energy that regular exercise provides. It's up to trainers to explain to clients that good health and well-being require more than weight loss - they require active exercise and a healthy lifestyle.

Economic pressures are an important issue

The difficult economic conditions of the past year have led people to look for more sustainable solutions. In the worst cases, even to give up exercising. One popular way of offering a more cost-effective solution to clients is small group personal training, which helps to save costs while maintaining a degree of personalisation and individual attention.

Will AI take away the job of a personal trainer?

The answer is clear: No charge. At least not anytime soon. We can use technology to track heart rate, calorie consumption and send smart reminders, but AI cannot replace the emotional support and personalisation of a human being.

How will AI and technology help you better train your customers in the future?

Here are six ways you can use artificial intelligence (AI) to improve the work of your personal trainer today and in the near future:

  1. Drawing up personal training plans: AI rapidly processes large amounts of data to create personalised and adaptive training plans. It's up to you to review them, and to detect and correct any "hallucinations" the AI provides.
  2. Supporting dietary recommendations: AI analyses clients' training loads, health and nutritional habits, and provides in-depth analysis and recommendations to the coach. The trainer can then use this data to make appropriate and safe nutritional recommendations for the client.
  3. Real-time monitoring of technique and form: Machine learning allows you to analyse movements and find and correct possible technical errors in movement patterns more quickly.
  4. Monitoring training progress and supporting motivation: AI monitors progress and provides motivating but realistic targets and feedback.
  5. Effective time planning and reduction of administrative work: AI automates scheduling and communication tasks so the coach can focus on the client.
  6. Virtual assistants and remote training: AI acts as a virtual assistant coach, allowing continuous monitoring and advice, even from a distance.

All in all, AI allows personal trainers to focus on advising, motivating and coaching clients, taking over many technical and administrative tasks.
