Did you know that most people tend to gain weight around the holidays? Excessive eating is said to be the main cause of weight gain, but it is also caused by a lack of physical activity and exercise.
Unfortunately, during holidays and festive periods, people abandon their training routine because there is more hustle and bustle than usual and it seems that there is no time to train. If you're looking to stay in shape over Christmas and New Year, we're sharing with you today 5 practical tips to make the holidays easier:
1. Eat before you go out
Eat something healthy and filling before you go out. By doing this, you'll reduce the temptation to eat more than you need and it'll be easier to avoid unhealthy choices.
2. Avoid skipping meals
Start your day with a proper breakfast as usual. If it's a night of partying, you may be tempted to skip meals, but this can make you feel even hungrier. Rather, eat small portions more frequently throughout the day to avoid a big late-night binge.
3. Prefer water to drink
Alcohol and other sweetened beverages only add extra calories, so consume them in moderation and prefer water flavoured with lemon or cucumber slices, or drink herbal tea without sugar.
4. Be active
Whenever possible, it would be a good idea to find a way to be active every day. If exercise somehow doesn't fit into a busy Christmas week, try to add more movement to your daily activities - for example, take the stairs instead of the lift, park your car further away, get off the bus one stop earlier or, if possible, walk alone.

5. Prioritise your workouts
We recommend that you make a note in your diary and take it as an important meeting with yourself. The easiest way is to get your workout done early first thing in the morning, so you won't be tempted to skip a workout during the day, and you can get all your other chores done.
Happy incoming holidays! 😊
